Good Practices in Handling Diversity and Social Inequalities
Research and Development Project
Insufficient equity in education and subtle forms of exclusion of students and parents with immigrant- or socio-economically underprivileged backgrounds challenge education specialists. Abstract answers to these challenges from theorists often do not help and examples which have been proven useful in practice are rarely known and available. We want to change that by launching the project “Good Practices in Handling Diversity and Social Heterogenity”.
Searching for «Good Practices» and preparing them for implementation
In this project, we research and document creative, engaging, and established examples from schools, from teachers and student teachers and school principals. These good practices will be made accessible to other education specialists, and show them how to improve access to equal opportunities and how integration can work in different schools. We are interested in learning, which factors proved to be enhancing, and which hindered the implementation – during the entire process from the idea to the good practice. We intend to create an appealing website to display all findings, so education specialists can quickly find short texts with pictures and innovative podcast episodes ready to use in their schools and classrooms. Each example will be corroborated with a summary of corresponding findings from current research.
Research and analysis
In addition to the search for good practices we are conducting a research project to fill a gap in current research: What kind of development processes regarding social diversity do individuals undergo? How do these processes correlate with their biographies? Findings from this research will be available in publication and will serve the in-service and pre-service training of teachers. Insights will be accessible on the website as short texts as well.
